The Instituto Superior de Espanol Otavalo Spanish school was the FIRST language school in Otavalo, and as such maintains a pioneering reputation and provides unequalled quality in its course structure, using the teaching philosophy employed in all of our schools. Our language school facilities include a library, laundry, a common room for breaks and a terrace with a wonderful view of the city and the mountains. Our location is within easy reach of restaurants, Internet, interantional call facilities and banks.
The second Otovalo Spanish School location is in an indigenous community. Here the student will live with an indigenous family fully participating in their life. The family provides a private bedroom with private bathroom and three meals per day. The student will study four hours in the morning (Monday-Friday). After lunch with the family students will work on the farm, or participate in other activities with the family according to personal interests.
Location
The Otavalo Spanish School is located in the heart of Otavalo (map of Ecuador), just a minute's walk from Otavalo's famous craft market in the Plaza de Ponchos.
Otavalo, a small indigenous town of the north Andean countryside, is located just two hours north of Quito. It has been made famous by the incredible success of its indigenous population selling artisan crafts and quality textiles in the international arena. This is a great spot to practice Spanish and become more acquainted with indigenous populations and their incredible history.
A growing but peaceful city (with a population of around 35 000), Otavalo is situated in a valley in the shadow of the extinct Volcan Imbabura to the South and further North the extinct Cotocachi. It is the main city on the North-South route from Quito along the Pan-American Highway.
Free Time
There is no shortage of free-time activities here, from browsing the famous craft market on Saturday mornings, to high altitude hikes of Imbabura, Cotocachi, the Lagunas de Mojanda, or Cuicocha Lake. It is an ideal spot for the outdoor enthusiast, and with a growing tourism network, there are also opportunities to go biking or rafting around the nearby countryside.
